Having a Social Security number is mandatory whether you are self-employed or an employee, in these cases:
- Prior to registration or affiliation in any Social Security regime.
- To request inclusion in the health system, unless it is done as a beneficiary by another owner, as in the case of a child with respect to a father or mother.
- To be a beneficiary of Social Security pensions, benefits or subsidies.
Who can apply for NUSS?
You can access the procedure on employee who wants to register in the Special Regime for the Self-Employed (RETA). He businessman You can also apply if the person you are hiring is your first job and does not have the NUSS assigned.

The worker must provide the DNI, foreigner card or passport, an email, and fill out and sign the model TA.1, corresponding to the affiliation process. It is located in the Social Security virtual office and is easily downloaded.
In order to complete it, you must choose the “Citizen/Worker” category and specify “Obtaining the membership number.” The corresponding resolution will be notified within a maximum period of 45 days. If problems and/or doubts arise about the process, the option of contacting Social Security by telephone (901 502 050) is available to obtain the necessary information.
In person
There is also the possibility of going in person to any office of the General Social Security Treasury (TGSS) in the province where the company is located or where the interested person resides. In this case you must also provide the model TA.1 duly completed and signed, the DNI, foreigner's card or passport, the contact information and the usual address to make the request.
How can I request a copy of the membership number?
For those people who have the number but do not remember it, it can be found in various documents, such as in the work history report, on a payroll, in the employment contract, in a medical prescription or in the benefit resolutions that are issued. have requested.
