The “Innovative SME” seal It is a recognition by the Ministry of Science and Innovation to distinguish those companies that have an innovative nature.
To obtain this seal, companies must meet a series of requirements.
Requirements that must be met to obtain the “Innovative SME” seal
Have received public funding in the last three years through:

- Public calls within the framework of the VI National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation or the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation (the following plans are also understood).
- Aid for carrying out R+D+I projects, from the Industrial Technological Development Center.
- Calls for the VII Framework Program for R+D+I or the Horizon 2020 Program of the European Union (the following framework programs are also understood).
Demonstrate your innovative nature through your own activity:

- So much for having your own patent in operation in a period of less than five years.
- As for having obtained, in the three years prior to the exercise of the bonus right, a positive binding reasoned report for the purposes of applying the deduction referred to in article 35 of the corporate tax law.
Demonstrate your capacity for innovation, through any of the following official certifications:

- Young Innovative Company (JEI), according to the AENOR EA0043 specification.
- Innovative small or micro business, according to AENOR EA0047 specification.
- Certification in accordance with the UNE 166.002 standard (R+D+I management systems).
Advantages of obtaining the “Innovative SME” seal
- Within the framework of the same project, it allows companies to make compatible the bonuses in the Social Security contributions of the research staff dedicated to it exclusively, with the tax deductions for R&D&i established in article 35 of the law. of corporate tax.
- Companies can also benefit from aid that is expressly linked to the status of “innovative SME” and can participate in public procurement through the so-called Innovative Public Procurement.
- When a company obtains the seal, it will be able to display the official logo so that users know that this SME is innovative and recognized as such. You may also use this badge for commercial traffic and advertising purposes.
How is the request made?
Those companies that want to register as innovative SMEs must do so through the corresponding registration application, providing documentation that proves that it meets the requirements established in the Ministerial Order ECC/1087/2015, of June 5 as indicated at the beginning.
The seal that certifies an SME as innovative can be downloaded through the link provided in the granting resolution, or the company representative can download it at the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
Once the validity of the “Innovative SME” seal has expired, it cannot be exhibited, as established in article 3.5 of the aforementioned ministerial order. In the event that it has been withdrawn due to the non-compliance with the requirements being confirmed after its granting, it may not be used either.
